Frankfort, KY—Representative Dean Schamore has pre-filed legislation to help provide more Kentucky children permanent and loving homes. Bill Request 333 will increase the stipend of available assistance for Kentucky National Guard members to cover adoption expenses and offset future medical or educational benefits.

“The Kentucky adoption benefit encourages and provides assistance to active duty National Guard members to cover direct costs incurred in the adoption process,” said Rep. Dean Schamore. “So many Kentucky children need families, and this is a great program that provides help to military families who are serving our country.”

An eligible member of the Kentucky National Guard shall receive:

14 (a) Up to seven[five] thousand dollars ($7,000[$5,000]) in unreimbursed direct

15 costs related to the adoption of a child with special needs; or

16 (b) Up to five[three] thousand dollars ($5,000[$3,000]) in unreimbursed direct

17 costs related to the adoption of any other child.

“Kentucky has over 10,000 children in the foster care system and many of those will need permanent homes,” said Rep. Schamore. Kentucky has worked to become an adoption-friendly state and this stipend increase will make the process more accessible for parents and help children find their forever homes.”

Representative Dean Schamore is Navy veteran and business owner and represents Breckinridge, Hancock and Hardin Counties in the Kentucky House of Representatives.
