“Representative Schamore understands the goals of this program as well as anyone in the General Assembly, given his role serving in the U.S. Navy and his Gulf War experience,” House Speaker Stumbo said. “I am confident he will do an outstanding job.”
“This appointment is a true honor, and I look forward to doing what I can to contribute,” said Rep. Schamore, D-Hardinsburg. “I want to thank Speaker Stumbo for his confidence as well as Representative Johnny Bell, who held this appointment previously. While recognizing that deployments are down, I think there is still a lot of growth potential for this program. I’m committed to helping as many families that need it.”
The General Assembly established the trust fund to cover unexpected expenses caused by deployment overseas, which includes helping military families pay for such things as housing, utilities and groceries.
“This trust fund has been a true life saver for many families,” Rep. Schamore said. “It’s another way we can help our men and women in uniform, and I’m proud to now be part of it.”
